Thank you, I made the changes you outlined and it now appears to be working fine. I really appreciate the help!

I’ve attached the page template called “front-page.php” to this mail. You can upload it in the root of the theme folder.
The only thing you have to do after this step is to go to WordPress admin -> Settings -> Reading and set the option “Front page displays” to “Your latest posts”.
Sorry again for this, but it’s a problem with WordPress itself and we cannot change the way WordPress handle this.
